Justin Hardy is Switch’s founder and native Alabamian from Gulf Shores. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Civil Engineering. As a result of his formal education and five years as a Structural Engineer, he brings a unique design perspective to Switch. His engineering design at Alcoa and his technical experience in the industry make him well-suited to audio/visual design applications; resulting in some of the finest systems found anywhere in the country. He combines theory, practical application and a passion for analysis and design. His many satisfied clients can attest to his mastery of the field and dedication to creating the best audio/visual systems without the high costs normally associated with the high quality systems he creates. As a result, you’ll hear and see just how much better Switch is than the competition.
Justin received a 2008 nomination for Small Business Owner of the Year. His design and integration work has been featured in Birmingham Real Estate Newspaper, Shelby Living Magazine, The Birmingham News, Home and Garden Magazine, Birmingham Works Magazine, and B Metro Magazine. He is a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, which raises money to help crippled, injured, and sick children. He is the President of Phoenix BNI, a referral group in Birmingham that has passed over $5,000,000 in business in the past 5 years alone. He also sits as the Accelerator Chair of Birmingham’s Entrepreneur’s Organization, a business development group composed of 50+ Members, all of which are owners of companies and have revenues averaging over $10,000,000 each.
Andy Evans has been a successful entrepreneur and business owner in Birmingham for over 13 years and is now a partner at Switch. Prior to joining Switch Audio Video he was President and CEO of Provenance Digital Media and before that, President and CEO of Man in the Maze Marketing – both multimillion dollar companies that he started from scratch, selling them in 2010. He recently lent his efforts to another local digital marketing firm, resulting in an 800% increase in sales in less then one year by changing the sales process and overall operational procedures. Andy has been a major force in the Southeast’s business, web development, and marketing community since 1998 and looks to continue his successful ways with Switch.
His accomplishments aren’t limited to digital marketing. In 2000 he purchased the failing franchise of the John Casablancas/Elan Agency and quickly turned it into a multimillion dollar enterprise selling it in 2004. Andy is the founding President of Networking Birmingham, a website presence that aggregates the calendars and events from all of the chambers of commerce in the Birmingham area and other business networking groups to promote needed networking opportunities in the business community.
Andy has received numerous professional award and honors, including the Birmingham Business Journal’s prestigious “Top 40 under 40”, the “Faces of Birmingham” (audio/video category) for 2014, 2015 and 2016, is on the leadership team and the board of directors for the City Sales Club (the longest standing sales club in the state), a nomination for the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Person of the Year Award, the Award of Excellence from the Evangelical Press Association, the Most Improved Franchise Award from John Casablancas, and the Top Salesman of The Year Award from the Limited Corporation, and is a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. We’re proud Andy is contributing his many talents to Switch and believe he will continue our tradition of providing value and service to our ever-growing list of satisfied clients.
Melissa Nelson has been a member of the Switch team since 2011 and is now our General Manager, Melissa initially proved her skills as our bookkeeper’s bookkeeper. Today, she shoulders much of the responsibility relating to everyday office functions: bookkeeping, human resources, payroll and order management. Melissa is appreciated for her organizational skills; she can be counted on to dot every “I” and cross every “t”. If you need detailed information regarding any aspect of the company, she’s your lady. She’s the “matriarch” of our family; she always has time to help and support employees who need an ear to listen or a helping hand. She is indispensable to Switch. Though Melissa is an amazing mother of three, the team members at Switch are “her guys”.
Matt Austin is the Operations Manager at Switch, Matt ensures that all projects are handled with thought and care and that customers’ needs are always met and exceeded. He’s very personable and he communicates effectively and efficiently, leading to happy customers. He communicates with builders, foremen and each and every client to make sure that Switch delivers what is promised. Hired at Switch in 2015, Matt worked for more than 10 years as a service technician and manager at Best Buy’s Geek Squad. He brings large-scale corporate perspectives to Switch, a business which has become a major player in the Birmingham audio/visual industry. He serves as a worship minister at a local church, using those skills to inspire the Switch staff and helping us instill our core values in each of our trusted employees.
Kyle Smith is Switch’s Senior Project Manager, and came to us in 2009 with a background in digital cable installation and A/V applications. His experiences and administrative know-how make him an ideal project manager and a key component of the Switch leadership team.
Kyle believes that a major reason why Switch thrives is its everyday dedication to excellence: “Our guys don’t just watch a video on how something works; we take products home and use them first to make sure they perform as advertised. We want to make sure our customers are happy with what they purchased.”
Tomas Christensen with a passion for audio/visual equipment, Tomas came to Switch after working for Apple in tech support and he is now our Service Manager. Before Apple Tomas also worked at Regions Financial Corporation. Tomas enjoys solving problems and with one goal in mind: customer satisfaction. His resume reflects a man with a breadth of experience and unique background rarely found in the A/V and IT industries.
Matthew Estes loves all things technical and digital and is one of Switch’s Project Managers and Designer’s. Growing up, he would take things apart and put them back together again. Matthew has been with Switch since spring, 2015, and holds QA and CompTIA A+ certification and every Alarm Certification the state offers. Before beginning his career at Switch, Matthew gained valuable experience at a North Carolina IT firm. When he and his wife decided to make Birmingham their new home, he was excited to find that his Switch role unites the IT field and his lifelong love for electronics and audio visual equipment. The change in career trajectory is welcome: “The computer IT business can be a little dry; this is a whole lot more creative and fun.” says Matthew.
Matthew Berry is one of Switch’s Project Managers and Designers in our newest office in Tampa, FL. We are very excited at how quickly he has risen through the ranks. Before joining the Switch team at the beginning of 2017, Matthew’s previous employment included Sound Production Assistant at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and Lighting Specialist at Professional Sound Advice. His 10+ year background in sound reproduction, lighting engineering, and show production shows his amazing talents and affords Switch the opportunity to branch out into growing areas of our country.

Matt Tracy started at Switch in 2011 and has learned every aspect of the business. As a Project Manager, he enjoys coding and programming. The average consumer may describe touchscreen as “magic” but Matt knows these time-saving devices must be programmed and wired so they function perfectly. His favorite part of the job? Seeing the customers’ reactions when they experience the results of his painstaking efforts: “I love seeing the smiles and excitement on their faces when we finish a job – it says everything.”
Barry Horton brings an extensive background in audio/visual work to the Switch team. Barry is a Prewire Manager, a very crucial role. He’s there during renovation or new construction, assuring that A/V systems are wired according to high industry standards and will function reliably for many years to come. “Wireless technology is great – until lightning strikes”, says Barry. “Then you are going to want the wiring there for a backup – it’s the backbone of the system.”
Charles Newman is our Warehouse Manager and has been with Switch for 4 years. Charles brings with him considerable experience from his work at an Auburn, AL based A/V company. He is proficient at both pre-wiring and installations for residential and commercial projects, He believes that the word “team” has special significance at Switch: technicians work effectively with one another to deliver outstanding results.
